Welcome to Spartanburg Pharmacutical Research

Despite recent medical advances, many chronic illnesses, such as asthma and hypertension remain serious problems. Asthma continues to claim many lives and causes absence from work and school. High blood pressure is prevalent in many Americans and a major cause of strokes and heart attacks. Chronic illnesses, such as chronic obstructive lung disease and osteoporosis, often progress with little warning, until the patient finds that they need oxygen or they have broken a bone.

For those people lucky enough to be spared from chronic conditions such as these, they can still be stricken by infections such as bronchitis or pneumonia with sudden, swift and disastrous consequences since antibiotics are no longer uniformly successful in eradicating infections.

In order to help find solutions to these problems, Spartanburg Pharmaceutical Research (SPR) staff has been working for the last ten years with major pharmaceutical companies on a variety of clinical research trials to bring more effective medicines to patients.

These clinical trials are carefully designed by pharmaceutical drug companies to compare new medicine with conventional medicine to establish whether the new medication works as well or better than the conventional medication. To ensure patient safety, the FDA and the Institutional Review Board (IRB) have already reviewed these studies. Volunteers participating in the clinical trial may receive either the traditional drug or the new investigational drug.

Providing effective treatment while maintaining patient safety during the course of the trial is our number one priority. We are pleased that most of the medications (Levofloxacin, Gatifloxacin, Moxifloxacin, Gemifloxin, Linezolid, Albuterol/Atrovent, Serevent/Flovent, Tacrolimus, Relenza, Sumatriptan and Meridia) we have used in our clinical investigational studies have been approved by the FDA and are now available to the general public. We are also pleased to report that our site has undergone an FDA inspection and audit, without any deficiencies.

While most of our clinical research involves respiratory diseases, we also work closely with many other specialties in treating conditions such as osteoporosis, sinusitis, hypertension, diabetes, migraine headaches, prostatitis, and excessive weight gain/weight loss. Our phase I unit located on N. Church street is currently open and accepting study candidates.
